Denver firms leading one of the largest healthcare projects in Wyoming

Denver firm Milestone Project Management to assist with hospital expansion

DENVER, CO (July, 2012) Even a healthy 73-year-old can show some signs of age. Wyoming Medical Center (, built in 1939, is now starting the largest renovation and addition in its history. Three Denver firms are at the heart of the $30 million project located in Casper, WY. Wyoming Medical Center selected Milestone Project Management ( to orchestrate the project; Davis Partnership is part of the design team and Haselden is the general contractor.

What started as a rural community hospital is now a regional trauma center serving the entire state of Wyoming. The new amenities will allow Wyoming Medical Center to continue their mission of providing the latest technology and treatment in a safe and service-oriented environment. The largest component of the new construction is a four-story tower totaling 100,000 s.f; it will include a soaring new 2-story entrance, new labor and delivery unit, and additional patient recovery rooms. The tower will also include support areas such as patient admissions, a gift shop, chapel, a public cafeteria, and new kitchen. There will also be a new, stand-alone 10,000 s.f. MRI facility adjacent to the tower.

All of the 38 patient rooms in the new tower will be single occupancy for improved patient privacy and to reduce infections from community-borne illnesses. The patient rooms in the existing facility will be converted from semi-private to private occupancy. Once complete, there will be 182 patient rooms.

“We’ve done a great job serving patients with the facilities we have, but it’s time for us to upgrade everything so we can continue delivering the best healthcare possible,” Wyoming Medical Center COO Julie Cann- Taylor said. “The design of the new center will help our medical professionals perform more efficiently and it will accommodate new diagnostic and treatment technologies. The aesthetics of the new center are much more patient-focused; everything from the single patient rooms to the materials and color palette are specifically design to foster a feeling of serenity. New moms aren’t going to want to leave our new labor and delivery unit!”

Demolition is almost complete on approximately 62,000 s.f. of existing space to make way for the new tower and future facilities. Plans are already underway for a new wellness clinic and diabetes care center, to be built as funding becomes available.

Milestone Project Management opened their Denver office in May 2012. The firm solely provides project management services and specializes in the healthcare, high tech and energy sectors. The Wyoming Medical Center is the firm’s signature project in Wyoming. David Peterson is Milestone’s Rocky Mountain Regional Director and the Project Manager for the Wyoming Medical Center project.

“We recognized the opportunity for a firm like ours to work in Denver and throughout the region” Scott LaTulipe, AIA, president and CEO of Milestone, said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better first project than the Wyoming Medical Center renovation. It is the nexus of healthcare for the state, so we must ensure the facility has maximum longevity and flexibility. There are also multiple local and regional team members simultaneously working on the project, so coordination becomes more critical. Then, factor in the need to maintain safe, ongoing medical operations while the renovation is underway and the need for someone “on point” is clear. These kind of project complexities are what we thrive on.”

In addition to Milestone, Davis Partnership, and Haselden, Casper-based project team members include GSG Architecture and joint venture contractor Caspar/Pope Construction.
